Wollheim Devine Scholarship Fund
Jennifer Wollheim Devine was a Gainesville midwife, activist, daughter, wife and mother who passed away in 2007. She was a dynamic, energetic, and nurturing woman who had a deep calling to become a midwife, and realized her dream when she graduated from the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. Jennifer shared enormous gifts with our community by being employed as a Licensed Midwife at the Birth Center of Gainesville and working as an instructor and Clinical Director at the school.
The Jennifer Wollheim Devine Scholarship was created in her memory by her family and her mother Marilyn Magnet. Through their support and the support of other scholarship donors, over $30,000 has been distributed since 2007 to enable students to complete midwifery school. Recognizing that school is expensive, many students commute long distances to attend, and family obligations must be met, the scholarship covers unexpected or emergency expenses that, if unmet, would jeopardize the student’s academic career or family well-being. Without this support, many students would be unable to fulfill their dreams of becoming licensed midwives.
FSTM CYPRESS GROVE CAMPUS
FSTM is headed to Miami! We are seeking funding support to offer a Community Based Direct-Entry Program at a second campus location in Miami-Dade County, an area of extremely high need for both midwifery education and healthcare service providers. FSTM aims to reduce barriers to midwifery education by offering a local program in a population-dense area and accepting many forms of financial aid. Our second location in North Miami Beach will further the FSTM mission and vision to provide the finest in direct-entry midwifery education to students throughout Florida.
The program is set to open in Summer 2019, and provisional approval from the State has already been granted. We are currently navigating the regulatory processes for accreditation and financial aid, as well as hiring staff, faculty and preceptors. With your personalized sponsorship you can ensure that a Student Midwife of your choice who is attending the Direct Entry Midwifery Program at The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery will be able to offset their tuition fees, book fees, travel expenses, and more. Because of raising costs of living and Federal Financial Aid’s increased interest rates, there is a gap into which some of our students fall. By sponsoring a Student Midwife you can help to offset this gap and help them complete their education! Student Midwives commute from all over Florida to attend The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery, from as far away as Ft. Lauderdale!
Graduate Midwife Assistance Program (GMAP)
To promote the graduation of midwives of color and prepare them to practice in Florida, FSTM launched the Graduate Midwife Assistance Program (GMAP). GMAP will provide funding to graduating students of color to allow them to take their licensing exam and pay their licensing fee. The cost of exam and licensing is approximately $1,700.00, which can be an obstacle to students who have been through three years of intensive education. Donating to FSTM's GMAP program will help assist these students to become licensed and begin practicing in their communities -- doing their part to improve mother-baby outcomes.
FSTM Access and Equity Scholarship
The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery seeks to reduce barriers to midwifery education for students who are currently underrepresented in midwifery education programs. This is an effort to promote equity, anti-oppression, and anti-racism at FSTM, within Florida midwifery, and beyond.
Recipients of the Equity and Access Scholarship receive funding that covers tuition and fees for each semester beginning in Year 2, Term 1 of the program. FSTM will provide this scholarship to one student per cohort per year and will commit to expanding the program as possible.
Donna Susan Pugh Rarey Scholarship
Donna Susan Pugh Rarey, LM, RN was a wife, mother, and grandmother who passed away in 2023. Donna was inspired to become a midwife after her first granddaughter was born in 1998. In 2000, she assisted in the birth of her second granddaughter, and in 2002 she delivered her third granddaughter. She earned her midwifery license in 2002. She established her Heaven-Sent Midwifery practice, cofounded Midwives Cooperative, and helped at the Birth & Beyond Clinic in Florahome, Florida thereafter. In her twenty years as a midwife, Donna helped hundreds of mothers bring their children into the world. She desired passionately to provide home births. She was a woman nothing short of extraordinary. She radiated kindness, loved deeply, and gladly helped those in need.
The Donna Susan Pugh Rarey Scholarship fund aims to provide financial support to students who demonstrate distinction in the clinical setting through their dedication, diligence, and regard for the well-being of others, as Donna did during her practice as a midwife.
